Okay, so after I finished my Abitur I bought a 3DS and Super Mario 3D Land and, what should I say, the game is awesome! The mix of the gameplays from Super Mario Galaxy and New Super Mario Bros. was a nice experience. But the best thing of the game was by far the final battle with the King of Koopas himself, his Unholiness Lord Bowser!!
Actually that battle was so great that I was inspired to try and make a fanart of it, the result of that effort being this piece here. I haven't found my own style with digital drawing yet, so I'm still experimenting a little. For instance, the outlines of this drawing where made with the magic of the pen tool, but only Mario's outlines are coloured. It's yours to decide what looks better.
Now about the battle itself (OMG SPOILERS!!): This battle is truly awesome, mostly because it's not really a battle. Mario has to run through a course that mostly consist of crumbling platforms and has to avoid Bowser's fireballs, spiked iron balls and barrels, always in danger of falling into the bottomless abyss beneath, all while giant boulders keep falling out of the sky. And it even gets better! After you defeat Bowser you think you've won and move on to rescue Princess Peach, when suddenly Bowser jumps back on screen and starts spamming you with his new attack, the happily coloured fireball shown in the picture. Not only does this purple-pink stream of fire look incredibly awesome and move at high speed, it also emits an awesome soaring sound effect and it destroys the platforms you're walking on!!
I mean, seriously! HOW BADASS IS THAT?!?
Awesome enough to make a fanart of it, that's for sure. And that is why I have come to name this awesome attack....the Flare Beam!! YES! BEHOLD AND TREMBLE IN FEAR, AS THE MIGHTY FLARE BEAM CONSUMES ALL!!!!
But seriously, this Final Boss Battle was one of the best I've ever fought and especially one of the best Bowser Battles. The epic music, the fantastic stage that crumbles apart, the desperate atmosphere, Bowser's unexpected return after you first punch him into the abyss and his BADASS FLARE BEAM perfectly describe the terror and complete destruction that is Bowser!
And yes, I do know that he wasn't that gigantic in the original game, but I felt like increasing his size a little bit to further emphasize Lord Bowser's might!
Anyway, I hope you like it. Took me long enough to make after all...
I do not own Mario, Bowser or the AWESOMENESS THAT IS THE FLARE BEAM!!
